I’m in a small Womens Bible Study at my church, about a month ago we talked about complaining and how it affects our lives. It affects us in a very negative way that I couldn’t even imagine, I just thought it was natural because everybody complains at one point or another. However, in my study I found out complaining actually offends God. I immediately said to myself, oh no! I’ve been offending God for years, then the next thing I did was repent. I learned that when we complain about our circumstances we are not trusting in God’s ability to do what he said he would do like never leaving us or forsaking us. God also says he shall supply all our needs according to his riches and glory.
There are other passages in the Bible where God actually shows us he can do the impossible. In the Old Testament he opened the Red Sea so the children of Israel could walk across then when the enemy came he closed the sea back down. In the New Testament he sent us a savior to atone for all our sins by dying on the cross then God raised him from the dead three days later. There are countless promises God makes to us in the Bible, he kept his promise to them and he wants to keep them with us if we allow him. However when we complain we prevent him from doing his job because of unbelief. This walk with God is a faith walk, we must trust him to do what he says he will do in order for this thing to work.
Complaining also keeps us stuck, just like the children of Israel were stuck wondering around in the wilderness forty years and never saw the promise land. Because of their lack of faith and their decision to do things on their own God was unable to fulfill his promise to his people. Sometimes we do that as well when things are not going in our favor we tend to either want to help God or start complaining. For those of us who wonder why we can’t catch a break that’s your answer. You are trying to do Gods job, or you are operating in unbelief, complaining preventing God to work things out in your favor.
There was a time in my life actually a few times in my life where I was very depressed and thought surely God must have forgotten about me, or even worse that his promises didn’t include me they must be for other people. So in my depressed state I would complain and feel sorry for myself and actually believed I had nothing to be grateful for, the funny thing about that was I felt justified in my feelings. Because of Gods mercy, Grace and love for me, he lead me to an article about being grateful. The article said when we wake up in the morning say out loud a reason to be grateful. I started doing it and each day the list got longer and longer then I had a different mindset instead of complaining and feeling sorry for myself I chose to be grateful which then allowed God to start moving on my behalf. That also taught me the simple things that are priceless, like the love and support of family and friends are two of tho most important things to be thankful for and never to be taken for granted.
God wants us to live a fulfilling life, he wants to bless us exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think, but that requires some work on our part and that is to trust God and his process. When God blesses us he likes to prepare us for the blessings if we are not properly prepared when we are blessed we won’t be able to handle what God has for us. Sometimes the reason we go through hard times that seem like forever is because he’s teaching us a lesson, and when God brings us out we are to give God the glory by telling someone else who is struggling. We are blessed to be a blessing to others however we will never get to that point if we continue to complain about our circumstances. Complaining keeps us stuck and prevents God from doing a work in our life. Gratitude releases faith and allows God to do a great thing in our life and use us to be a blessing to others which will you choose?
